Politics

In the past, Mennonites have rarely held political positions beyond the local level and have tended to maintain a distance from political involvement. Today, >more Mennonites are running for elected offices. Many participate in political parties at a local, state/provincial or national level. If a person has interest in participating in politics, he/she is encouraged to ask several questions: “Will this political involvement enable me to be an ambassador of Christ’s reconciliation?  Will this participation in any way violate my commitment to the way of Christ and compromise my loyalty to Christ? This kind of question is asked about office holding, voting, government employment, etc.

Modern Mennonites in Canada have been more open to political participation, with a number serving as Members of Parliament.
