Women’s hair
At an earlier time in Mennonite history, Mennonite women did not cut their hair. This is no longer the case for modern Mennonites. Only the more conservative Mennonite groups still follow this practice. It is based on the scripture in I Corinthians 11 where the Apostle Paul says, “… any woman who has her head uncovered while praying or prophesying dishonors her head, for it is the same as if she were shaved. If a woman is not veiled, let her hair be cut; but it is disgraceful for a woman to have her hair cut …” This is also the reason why more conservative women wear a head covering or veil at all times.
